College Soccer News - Men's National Team Of The Week - Week Ending October 25, 2020

It was a week of close contests with several games requiring ovetime to determine the outcome. The College Soccer News Team of the Week seeks to recognize individual performers on both sides of the ball who were difference makers during the week.    

Grayson Barber

Clemson

Barber is a catalyst on the offensive side of the ball for Clemson. This week he scored the lone goal in the Tigers' 1-0 on the road win over NC State. After receiving a pass from Luis Felipe Fernandez-Salvador, he made a nice move at the top of the box to create the angle he needed to place a shot into the back of the frame. Clemson improves to 5-1-0.  

Jack Lynn

Notre Dame

Lynn was a force on the offensive side of the ball for the Irish. He converted a header put in play by Patrick Coleman to help the Irish come from behind to top Virginia 2-1 in double overtime. The goal was Lynn's third of the year and the 16th of his career. The Irish improve to 3-2-0.

Virginia Tech

Blacklock made a nice move in the box off the dribble to create the angle and the space he needed to drive a shot into the bottom right corner of the net in Virginia Tech's 1-1 tie with Syracuse. The Hokies are 0-1-2. 

Ethan Hackenberg

Coastal Carolina

Hackenberg came through in the clutch for the Chanticleers when he converted a header served in by Thomas Fielding with only 33 seconds remaining in fhe first overtime period. Coastal Carolina topped Georgia Southern 2-1 to improve to 4-0-0. 

John Martin

Clemson

Martin was part of a very solid Tiger defense that shutout NC State 1-0 in Raleigh. Clemson improves to 5-1-0.  Martin and his Tiger teammates have a crucial  ACC contest  coming up on Tuesday, October 27 when they tangle with UNC at Historic Riggs Field.  

Omar Hernandez

Wake Forest

Hernandez scored out of a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box with five minutes remaining in regulartion to give the Demon Deacons the advantage they need to top Duke 2-1 on the road in an ACC contest. Wake Forest is now 5-1-0. 

Veljko Petkovic

Pittsburgh

Petkovic contributed the assist on the goals scored by Bryce Washington and Filip Mirkovic to help power Pittsburgh by Louisville 4-1. The Panthers improve to 5-0-0. 

Sondre Norheim

Syracuse

Norheim drove a header into the back of the frame and was part of a tough Syracuse defensive effort that resulted in a 1-1 tie on the road with Virginia Tech in ACC play.   

Bryce Washington

Washington began the scoring for Pittsburgh in their 4-1 win over Louisville when he drove a header into the back of the frame out of a corner kick. He has also been a key part of Pitts backline. The Panthers are now 5-0-0. 

Alberto Suarez

Suarez was part of a rock solid Central Arkansas defense that limited Georgia State to only two shots while recording a 2-0 win. The Bears improve to 2-4-0 with a 2-2-0 mark in Sun Belt play.

The Irish center back  made an impact on both sides of the ball including a crucial game saving clear in Notre Dame's 2-1 come from behind win in overtime against Virginia. The Irish improve to 3-2-0.  

Russell Shealy

Shealy had an eight save evening between the pipes including four saves in overtime in Syracuse's 1-1 tie on the road with Virginia Tech. The Orange are now 0-2-2.

Krapf had a career-high seven saves in goal for  NC State in a hard fought 1-0 loss to a very good Clemson team.
